Thanks Mom

Last evening I went with my Mother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law, nieces, and daughter to a mother - daughter dinner.  My church used to have one and I have fond memories of accompanying my mother and grandmother and aunts and cousins to it.  We no longer have our own, so I was very excited to take Addison.  It was like walking back in time.  Generations of families all sitting around tables eating while men serve the meal.  It was ladies talking and food passed around the table.  It was a great Saturday night.
It was six girls dressed to the nines....

 She really doesn't look like me at all. *sigh*


Nana - you got the best of all worlds.  No teenage "girl" drama. No fighting over bathroom time.  Girls are messy! ... and now you have all these granddaughters you can spoil with makeup and girly fun. 

After the meal we all listened to this storyteller.  She told funny little jokes - totally appropriate for a church setting.  The littlest girls had a difficult time sitting and just listening... so Nana took them out to play.  Therefore, they missed the last part of the talk.  The part where the storyteller explained that her own mother died when she was 19.  The part where she encouraged us to tell our kids and parents the things we would want to say.....
So - here it is.
Mom. Thank you.  Thank you for putting up with me.  Thank you for listening to my problems.  Thank you for dealing with my teenage drama.  Thank you for never kicking me out of the house.  Thank you for giving up so much so that my brother and I could have.  Thank you for loving me unconditionally. 
Mom.  Thank you for accepting me into your family.  Thank you for holding your tongue when you (inevitably) thought I was doing something wrong.  Thank you for supporting us in times of need.  Thank you for being "on call" 24/7. Thank you for raising my husband.
Addison.  I. will. love. you. no. matter. what.  Enough said.

Beautiful - brought tears to my eyes. I'm so hoping to get back to PA this summer so that my kids can see my mother again - she and I are not close, but I want them to remember their grandparents. I'm so afraid that if we don't get back this year, it won't happen. =/

I need to come up with a way to tell her how I feel - just hard to do with the relationship that we have!

Amy ... Strained relationships are always hard. Sometimes words are said that can't be taken back. I wish you the best of luck this summer.... the words will come to you.
